Supervision in human services requires a certain level of skill and knowledge to be a successful experience. The competency required for this challenging position is seldom learned in basic management training. This workshop explores the aspects of emotional intelligence that are critical in human service supervisory positions. The presentation consists of a blend between models, theories and principles related to leadership and practical techniques for successful supervision.
This training provides the techniques and strategies for successful leadership in a supervisory capacity, including the role of the supervisor in human service settings, interviewing strategies and successful hiring practices, team building techniques, disciplinary interventions and termination of employment. In addition, ethical issues in supervision, development of a positive work culture, techniques for addressing staff accountability and performance, staff training needs and suggestions for burnout prevention are discussed. This course is appropriate for new supervisors and those considering supervision, as well as a refresher for seasoned supervisors.
