COUNTY BOARD TO CONSIDER RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF SAN DAMIANO FRIARY IN THE CITY OF MONONA

The Dane County Board of Supervisors will consider a resolution at their meeting tonight authorizing the County to provide funds towards the purchase of San Damiano Friary in the City of Monona.

 

The City of Monona recently negotiated the acquisition of the historic property from Saint Norbert Abbey. The parcel is approximately 9.8 acres, with more than 1,000 feet of frontage on Lake Monona. Additionally, the parcel abuts Lake Edge Park. Acquiring the parcel will preserve the green space within the city while providing public recreational opportunities and protecting that stretch of Lake Monona shoreline.

The parcel is being purchased for $8.6 million, with Dane County providing up to $2 million towards the purchase.
