In the 2022 budget that has been approved by the County Board and signed by County Executive Parisi, funds were included to increase accessibility at Dane County Parks.
The amendment, sponsored by County Board Supervisor Michele Ritt (District 18), included $500,000 to improve accessibility and enjoyment of Dane County Parks, waters, and lands for persons of all abilities.
"I am so proud of the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department. The dedication to protecting our natural resources is outstanding. These funds will help continue this important work of increasing accessibility for all residents of Dane County," said County Board Supervisor Michele Ritt (District 18), and Chair of the Environment, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee.
Potential approaches to accessibility may include beach mats that allow a person who uses a wheelchair to access the beach and water, sensory gardens, and accessible playground equipment.
