At tonight’s County Board meeting, County Board Supervisor Analiese Eicher (District 3) will introduce an ordinance amendment making it a violation of Dane County’s Ethics Code for a County official to sexually harass or discriminate against any other person.

The ordinance amendment indicates that no county official in the performance of their duties, shall engage in sexual harassment of any other person, or discriminate against any person on the basis of age, race, ethnicity, religion, color, gender, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin, cultural differences, ancestry, physical appearance, arrest record, military participation, or political beliefs.

"Good governance requires the trust of the public. It’s beyond time we have an updated code of ethics. Elected officials need to hold ourselves and each other accountable to ensure Dane County is a healthy and productive place to live and work," said Eicher.

If approved, the ordinance amendment includes a process for the Office for Equity and Inclusion to implement following a complaint including retaining an outside law firm to conduct an investigation.
