Deputies in the Dane County Jail acted quickly this morning to intervene on a suicide in the Dane County Jail.
At approximately 5:15 am, deputies responded to a cellblock on the sixth floor of the City-County Building jail after a 31-year-old man had intentionally cut his arms with a jail issued razor. Deputies quickly applied a tourniquet and he was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. His injuries are described as significant.
It is standard practice for residents who wish to shave to be issued a disposable razor for short period at the start of each day. Due to the City-County Building’s antiquated jail, deputies are not able to have direct sight lines of the individuals they are supervising. If not for the swift actions of the deputies who responded and provided lifesaving measures, this incident could have ended in tragedy.
