April is National County Government Month. The recognition is used to promote the important role county government plays in people’s everyday lives.
Dane County provides services from A to Z – the Airport to the Zoo. In an effort to share this important work with the community, County Board Chair Patrick Miles has sent a communication to Dane County high school government teachers making them aware of several resources that can be used to educate youth on the role of the county.
The resources include:
• Counties Work Educational Game
• Local Government Curriculum
• Educational Workbook
Recognizing that the youth in the county are the future leaders, the more the county can do to educate and spread the importance of local government with them, the better.
“County government directly impacts people in our community, it is important to share this important work broadly, particularly with our youth as we think about future leaders and dedicated public servants,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles.
Additionally, Dane County also has a Youth Governance Program that provides an opportunity for youth leadership development through participation in county government decision-making. More information on the program can be found here. The application for the program will be available in the next few weeks and shared with Dane County teachers as well.
