Jail Resident Death Investigation

At approximately 1:00 a.m., Dane County Sheriff’s deputies and Jail medical staff responded to an intake housing unit in the Public Safety Building portion of the Dane County Jail for a resident discovered unresponsive. Deputies and Jail medical staff immediately began performing life-saving efforts. Madison Fire Department Paramedics responded and took over medical care but could not revive the person. Dane County Sheriff’s Office Detectives, along with the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating the death. The safety, security, and well-being of those in our care is a priority that we take very seriously. A death in our facility, regardless of the cause, is thoroughly investigated to the high expectations set by this community,” said Sheriff Kalvin Barrett. “Our condolences go out to the person’s family and loved ones as they mourn this loss.” ###
