The Dane County Board of Supervisors held a public hearing last night to hear public comments on the proposed 2025 Dane County budget.

At the hearing, several members of the Hmong community spoke in support of funding for a Hmong interpreter position. Testimony focused on the need for this position to ensure language is not a barrier to engagement and assistance.  Multiple Hmong residents also spoke about the need for better transportation access and financial assistance for the Dane County Hmong community.

Public comments also addressed funding for construction of a new Sunshine Place building.  Sunshine Place representative indicated a need for additional funding for facilities to accommodate a growing number of clients.

Additional comments were made related to positions in various departments as well as increases to pet license fees.

“As we work through the last few weeks of the budget, resident input is extremely valuable as the budget reflects the values and priorities of the community,” said County Board Chair Patrick Miles.

The County Board will hold one more public hearing on Monday, October 28 at 6:00pm to hear comments on the Personnel and Finance Committee’s budget recommendations.  The agenda with information to attend will be available by the end of the week of October 21, at https://dane.legistar.com/Legislation.aspx.
