Dane County Leaders Announce Reopening of Application Portal for Director of Human Services

MADISON – Today, Dane County Executive Melissa Agard and County Board Chair Patrick Miles announced the reopening of the online application portal for the position of Director of Human Services. This action follows the recent withdrawal of finalist Amy Everett, who rescinded her acceptance of the role last week.

"We are committed to swiftly securing permanent leadership for our Department of Human Services," stated Executive Agard. "Reopening the application portal allows us to quickly assess the available talent pool and expedite the selection process. Our focus remains on identifying a leader who will uphold our commitment to serving the residents of Dane County."

The Department of Human Services plays a critical role in providing essential services to the community. As the largest department within County government, County Executive Agard emphasized the urgency of this search, noting that the county will work diligently to fill the position promptly.

"We understand the importance of this department to our community and are taking decisive action to ensure it has the leadership it needs," Agard added. "We will move forward with urgency and determination to find the right individual to lead our Human Services team."

Dane County Board Chair Patrick Miles offered his support for an expedited process, stating, “In July 2023, the Dane County Board passed an ordinance amendment that established a consistent and transparent hiring process for the Human Services Director. This crucial role is essential in ensuring the needs of Dane County residents are met, and the County Board is committed to playing an active role in the expedited confirmation process.”

The application portal is now open. The first review of application materials will be on February 27 and will include a review of previously submitted applications. Applications will be reviewed on a continuous basis until the position is filled.
