MADISON — Dane County Executive Melissa Agard has officially proclaimed June as Dairy Month in Dane County, honoring the vital role of dairy farmers and the dairy industry in shaping the county’s economy, culture, and community.

“Dairy farming is the heartbeat of Dane County’s agricultural heritage,” said County Executive Agard. “Our dairy farmers work tirelessly to provide nutritious food, preserve our rural landscapes, and strengthen our local economy. This month, we celebrate their dedication and the enduring legacy of dairy in our region.”

Dane County is home to approximately 170 dairy farms and around 150,000 cows, making it one of the top milk-producing counties in Wisconsin. The county also hosts the nation’s premier dairy event, the World Dairy Expo. Wisconsin’s dairy industry, often referred to as ‘America’s Dairyland,’ contributes over $50 billion annually to the state’s economy and supports more than 120,000 jobs statewide.

“Our dairy farms are more than businesses - they are multigenerational pillars of our community,” Agard added. “By supporting local dairy, we invest in our neighbors and our shared future.”

Throughout June, County Executive Agard encourages residents to participate in dairy-focused events, such as farm breakfasts and educational tours, and to support local dairy producers by purchasing Wisconsin-made dairy products.
